Before embracing Islam the company's director had started recycling himself from the age of 12 initially with cans and then inculding paper. After becoming Muslim this naturally continued although abit surprised of how many Muslims were unaware of "Recycling". From the beginning of Islam4children recycling became part of our daily life to which we produced a green policy for all to view. We would like to see more Muslims recycling and we would like to see other Muslim companies or organisations displaying the green policy for all to see. Can anyone name 10 Muslim companies or organisations who have a green policy?
Waste Reduction:
We try to eliminate waste at source and some of the ways we do this is:
• The use of electronic communications - unless our customers request otherwise we send all our quotes, invoices and other communications via email. This saves on both paper and also carbon miles for postage
• Further help to save paper we encourage payment online as opposed to cheque. We provide the option for e-invoices to be sent to customers also as opposed to hard copies.
• It is company policy that any document that does need to be printed is done where possible in draft format to use the as little waste ink as possible
• We reuse paper where possible – as packing and space sheets or for notes, rather than simply recycling the paper.
• We have installed multi-functional devices (for faxing, printing and photocopying) in our offices that will reduce energy and paper usage.
Recycling:
We recycle whenever possible.
• We recycle mobile phones and printer cartridges.
• Any hardware is cleared of information and recycled.
• All cardboard waste is taken by a dedicated recycling company
• All paper that is not useable and bottles are recycled by the local authorities.
Purchasing:
Like all companies our purchasing decisions are influenced by cost, however this by no means our only consideration, and we make a conscious effort to ensure we are buying from sustainable sources, which are local if possible.
• All the paper we use in our printing comes from FSC sources as a minimum
• All our packaging boxes are 100% recycled material and we don’t use packing material that is non-biodegradable
• Wherever possible we try and purchase goods and services locally, to help the local economy and to reduce carbon miles.
Travel: At Islam4children we have undertaken a commitment to make our travel as green as possible
• With all our multi-drop deliveries, we plan our routes carefully to reduce our mileage, and subsequently our carbon emissions
We display our Green policy at our offices for all our visitors to be aware of what we do.
